A Colombage

2018

Competition Entry to Le Forêt Monumentale with Jon Schmulevitz.

Referencing the vernacular half-timber framing (à colombage) of buildings in the Métropole Rouen Normandie, and the regional verdigris green.

Presented as a tower-like rocking/leaning form: a re-constructed tree-structure standing as a climbable monument to the vernacular.

The colour of Verdigris, (or 'salt green', or 'Rouen green') is famous to the region - it is the colour of the bridge over the lily pond Monet built at his house in Giverny. The green was made either by coating copper sheet in honey and salt or by using a glycerin-based soap coating before vinegar is applied.
